The Hermit of Inglismaldie

On August 6, 2017 (I know I’m a bit behind!) my mom, my friend, and I wanted to find the hermit cabin near Banff and we did!

The hike to the cabin is pretty easy, it’s just along Johnson Lake.

Day 3 — Okanagan Vacation — Oroville, Washington

The middle of our vacation was slightly more low-key and mainly involved days at the beach, shopping, visiting Oroville, and eating at places we don’t have in Calgary.

That being said, to be honest I don’t have a lot of pictures of this aspect of our trip as I was busy enjoying the moment and I mainly posted my favourite pictures in my first and second posts of this trip. So, if you want more detail and recent pictures then check those out ๐Ÿ˜Š

From July 22-July 29 my mom and I went camping in Penticton, British Columbia. My pappy came along for part of the trip. It was a great break and within that week we were able to fit in a LOT of activities! I will be blogging about these activities in multiple posts.

Emerald Lake Hike & Natural Land Bridge, Yoho National Park, BC

For my mom’s birthday, on July 15, she really wanted to hike around Emerald Lake. We had never been before and I was quite excited to photograph the blue water! The weekend before we had done the hike to Laughing Falls, so it seems we were on the theme of Yoho National Park!ย  (more…)

Road Trip to White Rock, British Columbia, Canada (Summer 2015)

In the summer of 2015 we took a road trip from Calgary to White Rock. I’ve already posted some picture on the photography section of my site. We were able to go to the Vancouver Aquarium (click here for pictures), Lighthouse Park (click here for pictures), and to Hell’s Gate (Read the blog post here).

Jasper in a Day! {July 26, 2016}

(For more Jasper pictures click here)

Last summer we did not go on a long holiday, as we normally due, to prior obligations. Instead we had more of a ‘stay-cation’ and went on different day trips throughout the week.

One of our day trips was to go out to Jasper as I had not been since I was a small girl. Since we live in Calgary this trip involved detailed planning and of course waking up at 5 am (those who know me know I HATE getting up early, but it was necessary in order to go).

Bankhead, Alberta — Banff National Park

Since I am still not quite done school for the semester I have yet to go on any recent adventures. Therefore, I thought I would write about another hike from last summer.

A bit of history…

Bankhead, Alberta is now an old abandoned coal mining town. According to some of my research the town was around from 1902-1923 and other sources cite it as being 1904-1922, but nonetheless it was not around for long. The town was located about “two kilometres north of Cascade Valley” (Ghosttowns.com,n.d.). The purpose of the town, according to a posting on the ghosttowns.com website posting on Bankhead, was “supplying coal for the locomotives of the Canadian Pacific Railway” and at one point the population was, “1,500 including 300 underground coal mine workers (Ghosttowns.com,n.d.). Cold War Bunker!

Duringย summer 2016 my mom, my friend, and of course myself went for a hike that we had found about through some research. As I mentioned in my post about waterfallsย I prefer hikes where we have a goal in mind (i.e. making it to a waterfall or in this case … a Cold War Bunker!). I don’t like to just wander aimlessly in the woods, I like to know that I am going places.
