Day 5 (Part 3/3) Arizona Trip: Antelope Canyon Water Tour & Back to Phoenix

After our first tour we went for lunch at the Jack in the Box. Then we headed to the Marina for our second tour. The second tour was much more laid back as there was more room to do stuff. This tour took us out onto Lake Powell and then through Antelope Canyon on the water side. There was lots of opportunities to take pictures and you could stand and sit as you pleased.

It is important to note that there is a $2 parking fee you must pay at the marina and a permit fee since you are on Navajo land. Since we had already done a tour we didn’t have to pay that twice.

The tour we chose was called Antelope Point Marina Slot Canyon Boat Tour. Our tour guide was Melvin. He was great and funny, but also very safety conscious. When we were leaving the marina the wind picked up and made some pretty big waves. Now, for us in the giant boat it didn’t phase us, but the poor kayakers out there were not fairing as well.

Rescue boat going to pick up the kayakers (there were at least 100 we counted up along the shore waiting out the storm)

We saw one two-person kayak flip over and knock the people out. He made sure to stop and see if they were okay. The two people were okay because they were wearing life vests but were waving for help as their kayak had escaped and they could not get back into it. Because our boat was so big and we didn’t want to run over them he flagged down a smaller boat to go help them (which they did). He also radioed in for a rescue boat to come out and retrieve them and their kayak. All through the tour in the canyon there were groups of kayakers up on the rocks waiting for the waves to die down.

After our tour we had to head back to our hotel in Tempe. Once home, we had to choose something to eat. We were tired, so we decided just to look near where we were staying. It was funny though because I told my mom that the next place we saw we would stop at and the next place was Salad to Go…hahaha! We ended up going to Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles. The food was really good, but they were out of the banana pudding which we wanted to try. But, the chicken was great (I had grilled chicken and my mom tried the fried).

My review of Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles:

  • Food: 4/5
  • Staff: 4/5
  • Atmosphere: 4/5
  • Cleanliness: 5/5
  • Overall: 4.75/5

After this, we went home and to bed. The next day was a ‘free’ day for us, so we didn’t have any big plans except for sleeping in…haha!

Thanks for reading my blog! I am trying to catch up on my trip to Arizona, slowly but surely.
