The other day I was cleaning my room and in one of the books I found one of those “Dear Future Ariel” letters. I had forgotten that I had even written it until I found it, but once I found it the memories came flooding back.
I think it was in Health Class in fourth grade that we did this activity. I cannot remember exactly what it was supposed to teach us, but it was a good listen because it definitely helped me. I remember we in order to write the letters we were to write things they we ourselves knew about (i.e. how we keep healthy, what we think we are good at, etc.). The secondary part of the project was for everyone to write something about their classmates that they liked about them. The teachers then compiled that information and gave back a final list of ‘results’ to each student to inset into their letters.
My letter went like this:
IAM 10 YEARS OLD. IAM IN GRADE 4. MY PURPOSE FOR WRITING THIS LETTER IS SO THAT I CAN LOOK BACK AT IT IF I FEEL SAD AND IT WILL MAKE ME FEEL BETTER. ALSO, SO THAT I WILL KNOW IAM STILL GOOD. SO IF SOMEBODY MAKES ME FEEL BAD I CAN FEEL BETTER.
SOME OF MY QUALITIES ARE BEING A GOOD BASKETBALL PLAYER, SOCCER PLAYER, AND BEING AN EXCELLENT READER. SOME THINGS THAT OTHER SAY ABOUT ME ARE THAT IAM KIND, HAPPY, AND NICE. I FEEL THAT IAM NOT GOOD AT ART. BUT I TRY MY BEST.
I MAINTAIN MY HEALTH BY EATING, BRUSHING MY TEETH , AND KEEPING CLEAN. I ALSO STAY HEALTHY BY EATING HEALTHY FOOD NOT JUNKFOOD. I EAT HEALTHY FOOD LIKE VEGATABLES, FRUITS, AND OTHER GOOD FOODS. I ALSO MAINTAIN MY HEALTHY BY VISITING THE DENTIST, DOCTOR, AND THE EYE DOCTOR TO STAY HEALTHY.
IAM A VERY NICE AND UNIQUE PERSON BECAUSE IAM NICE TO OTHERS, AND I DON’T COMPLAIN AT SCHOOL. I AM COOPERATIVE AND I THINK IAM REALLY NEAT AND UNIQUE.
Note: I apparently REALLY liked writing in all capital letter and forgot to space “I am” haha!
This letter may seem simple, but when I rediscovered it the other day it made me feel better about myself. It made me think of who I think I am today compared to then. This made me realize that I need to still focus on being healthy and on things that I think I am good at and enjoy rather than always just focusing on homework and other work.
